As Director of Trust & Safety Engineering, you will lead the engineering strategy and technical execution for systems that support platform safety, moderation, abuse prevention, and risk detection across our products.
This role is responsible for designing and scaling the infrastructure that powers content moderation, reporting tools, detection systems, policy enforcement, and integrity workflows. You will work closely with Trust & Safety, Product, Data, Compliance, and Legal teams to build reliable, scalable, and secure systems that help keep our communities safe.
We are looking for a technical leader who can combine strong engineering experience with operational thinking, sound judgment, and a deep understanding of how safety systems must work at scale.

Engineering Leadership – Trust & Safety Systems
Lead the design and development of systems that support moderation, reporting, enforcement, and abuse prevention.
Define technical strategy for Trust & Safety infrastructure across all platforms.
Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, and secure.
Guide architecture decisions for safety-related services.
Moderation, Detection & Integrity Tooling
Build and maintain internal tools used for content review, classification, and enforcement.
Develop systems that support human moderation and AI-assisted review.
Improve workflows for sensitive content handling.
Ensure tools allow accurate and consistent policy enforcement.
Risk, Abuse & Fraud Prevention
Design systems that detect spam, fake accounts, harassment, scams, and policy violations.
Partner with Data Science to build detection models.
Improve signals, alerts, and risk scoring systems.
Help prevent abuse without harming user experience.
AI & Automation in Safety Systems
Lead the integration of machine learning and automation into moderation pipelines.
Ensure strong human-in-the-loop review where needed.
Balance automation, accuracy, and fairness.
Maintain high standards for model quality and data integrity.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Work closely with Trust & Safety, Policy, Product, Compliance, Legal, and Data teams.
Translate policy and safety requirements into technical solutions.
Support new product launches with safety-by-design principles.
Help define safe defaults and guardrails.
Platform Integrity & Compliance Support
Ensure systems support regulatory and internal compliance requirements.
Build audit logs, tracking, and enforcement history where needed.
Support investigations and escalation workflows.
Maintain strong access controls and data protections.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and grow a team of engineers working on safety and integrity systems.
Set technical standards and best practices.
Mentor engineers and support career development.
Build a culture focused on responsibility, quality, and collaboration.
Operational Excellence & Reliability
Ensure high availability of moderation and safety systems.
Improve performance and scalability.
Monitor system health and incident response.
Drive continuous improvement in tooling and infrastructure.
Typically requires 8–12+ years of engineering experience, with several years in leadership roles.
Experience building large-scale backend or platform systems.
Experience working on Trust & Safety, Integrity, Moderation, Risk, Fraud, or Security systems.
Strong knowledge of distributed systems and scalable architecture.
Experience working with AI / ML or data-driven detection systems.
Experience leading engineering teams.
Comfortable working cross-functionally with non-engineering teams.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to balance speed, quality, and risk.
Comfortable working in fast-moving environments.
Experience with moderation or safety platforms.
Experience with cloud infrastructure.
Experience with real-time systems.
Experience with data pipelines.
Experience with compliance or audit-related systems.
Experience working on social, marketplace, or community platforms.
Salary Range: $170,000 – $210,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
